Slightly, typically 10-15% more for the same footprint due to the additional steelwork at the centre/wing junction. But you get more usable volume and natural zoning, so the cost per usable square metre is often comparable.

Can I build a barn shed as a livable shed home?

Yes. Barn style is popular for shed homes, the raised centre works as open-plan living with cathedral ceilings, while the wings house bedrooms and bathrooms. Engineering for Class 1A residential is included when specified.

How does a barn shed handle wind?

The stepped roof profile creates different wind loading patterns compared to a simple gable. This is accounted for in the engineering, the junction between centre and wings receives additional structural attention. Barn sheds are available in all wind regions including cyclone-rated areas.
