Grain Shed Specifications

Wall construction: sealed COLORBOND® sheeting with no gaps at flashings, base, or ridge. Grain-tight construction prevents pest entry and moisture ingress
Floor: sealed concrete slab with vapour barrier. Minimum 100mm thick, power-floated finish. Aeration channels can be cast into the slab
Wall height: 4m to 6m depending on volume. Higher walls = more storage per square metre of floor space
Retaining walls: concrete or steel grain walls (typically 1.2m to 2m high) around the perimeter to retain the grain pile against the walls. Reduces pressure on the shed cladding
Ventilation/aeration: in-floor or in-wall aeration systems for drying and cooling stored grain. Essential for maintaining quality during long-term storage
Access: sealed roller doors for loader access. Open-front designs are NOT suitable for grain, the building must be fully enclosed

Grain Shed Sizing Guide

Rule of thumb for wheat-type grains at 1m average pile depth per metre of wall height:

500 tonne: approximately 18m x 24m x 4m walls
1,000 tonne: approximately 24m x 36m x 4.5m walls
2,000 tonne: approximately 24m x 48m x 5m walls, or multi-bay
5,000+ tonne: multi-bay or multi-shed configuration

1,000t capacity (24m x 36m): $70,000 to $110,000 kit supply
2,000t capacity (24m x 48m): $100,000 to $160,000 kit supply
