The door is the most critical element of any hangar. Options include:
Internal columns are not acceptable in aircraft hangars. Every structure is clearspan portal frame, no obstructions between the walls. Wing walkers, tow bars, and ground handling equipment need unimpeded movement.
Aircraft hangars require a high-quality concrete floor, typically 150mm minimum thickness, steel-reinforced, power-floated with a hard-wearing surface. The floor must handle aircraft wheel loads (concentrated point loads), tug traffic, and chemical resistance to aviation fuel and hydraulic fluid.
The hangar apron and taxiway connection must meet aerodrome standards. Floor levels, door sill heights, and apron grades need to align with taxiway grades for smooth aircraft movement.
