Fertiliser Shed Specifications

• Fully enclosed: sealed walls, roof, and floor. No open-front designs, moisture ingress from any direction destroys the product
• Concrete floor: sealed, bunded concrete slab. Prevents ground moisture wicking into the product and provides spill containment
• Retaining walls: concrete bund walls (1.2m to 2m) around the perimeter to retain the bulk pile. Protects the shed cladding from loader bucket contact
• Ventilation: controlled ventilation to prevent condensation buildup without admitting rain. Louvres and ridge vents with weather protection
• Corrosion resistance: fertiliser (especially ammonium-based products) is highly corrosive to steel. Consider galvanised frame members and COLORBOND® Ultra cladding for long-term durability
• Access: wide roller doors for front-end loader access. Drive-through configuration for larger operations

Chemical Storage Considerations

If you’re storing agricultural chemicals (herbicides, pesticides, adjuvants) alongside or near fertiliser, additional requirements apply:

• Separate bunded areas for chemicals and fertiliser, never store together without containment separation
• Spill containment capacity, typically 110% of the largest single container
• Chemical-resistant floor coatings
• Safety signage and SDS (Safety Data Sheet) storage
• Compliance with AS 2507 (storage of agricultural chemicals) and state-specific regulations
